The Zack Files 시리즈

 

   X-Files를 떠올리게 하는 10살 Zack의 기상천외한 이야기. 부모님이 이혼하여 뉴욕에서 작가인 아빠와 살고 있는 잭에게는 초현실적인 이상한 일이 끊임없이 일어난다. 냉장고 야채실에서 엘비스 프레슬리를 닮은 말하는 무를 발견하는가 하면 유체이탈을 해서 돌아다니다가 자기 몸으로 다시 돌아가는 방법을 몰라 헤프닝을 겪기도 하고, 자기와 단둘이 있을 때만 이상하게 변하는 치아교정의사를 만나기도 한다. 다른 사람의 마음 속을 읽게 되기도 하고, 투명인간이 되기도 한다. 어릴적 한 번쯤 상상의 나래를 펼쳤다 해도 잭이 겪는 초현실적인 실제 이야기는 읽는 이를 호기심 충전하게 만들고 만다. ^^;;

 

   잭이 자기에게 일어난 이야기를 이야기해 주는 방식인데, 잭이 말하고 생각하는 스타일이 정말 딱 10살 아이 수준이랄까? 유머 넘치는 말솜씨에 쏙 빠져서, 흥미로운 잭의 일상(?) 속으로 귀를 쫑긋하게 된다. 30권 시리즈로 CD도 있는데, CD를 듣고 있노라면 마치 라디오 드라마를 듣는 것처럼 아주 실감나고 재미있다. 간간히 들어있는 삽화도 정말 우스꽝스럽다. 잭과 똑닮은 잭의 아빠를 보면 저절로 웃음이 난다.
